KUCHING – A local man was fined RM16,000 by the Magistrate’s Court for damaging five cars with flower pots in a Jalan Cenderawasih neighborhood earlier this year. Failure to pay the fine will result in a 46-month prison sentence.
The accused, 45-year-old Mohammed Syukur Ramli, pleaded guilty before Magistrates Mason Jaro Lenya Barayan and Syarifah Fatimah Azura Wan Alwi on five separate charges under Section 427 of the Penal Code, which deals with causing mischief resulting in significant damage.
The court imposed a RM9,000 fine or 26 months in jail for three charges and another RM7,000 fine or 20 months in jail for the remaining two charges.

Details of the Incident
The incident occurred in the early hours of January 15, between 2 am and 6 am, when Syukur deliberately damaged the windscreens of five vehicles, including two compact cars, two MPVs, and a sedan. The total losses amounted to RM4,340.
At around 5 am, a female teacher discovered her Toyota Veloz with shattered front and rear windscreens. She immediately lodged a police report, leading to the suspect’s arrest later that day at Kampung Semerah Padi.
CCTV footage revealed Syukur, appearing delusional and angry, using flower pots to vandalize the vehicles.
Prosecution and Investigation
The case was prosecuted by ASP Arman Ibrahim, with investigating officer Insp Logeswara Tharumalay@Krishnan leading the investigation.
