MIRI: A man suffered injuries after his car was involved in a head-on crash and overturned at the Miri Hospital traffic light intersection in the early hours of today.
According to a spokesperson from the Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM) Operations Centre (PGO), they received a call about the accident at 4.24 am. Following the alert, a team from Lopeng Fire and Rescue Station (BBP Lopeng) was immediately sent to the scene.

When the rescue team arrived, they discovered the car upside down, indicating the severity of the accident. The spokesperson said that the man, who was driving alone, was still inside the wrecked vehicle when firefighters reached the site.

Without wasting time, firefighters quickly began the rescue operation using special tools designed for vehicle extraction. After some effort, they managed to safely remove the man from the car.
“The victim suffered minor injuries to his hand and was immediately handed over to the medical team in an ambulance for further treatment,” the spokesperson said in an official statement.
The cause of the accident is still under investigation, but early reports suggest that no other vehicles were involved. It is believed that the driver may have lost control of his vehicle, resulting in the car hitting a solid object and overturning.
This incident highlights the importance of careful driving, especially during the early morning hours when visibility is lower, and roads can be slippery due to dew. Authorities also reminded road users to always wear seat belts and avoid speeding, particularly near intersections and hospital zones where traffic conditions can be unpredictable.
With quick action from the fire department, the situation was brought under control, and no other casualties were reported.
