MIRI, 20 February 2025 – A 28-year-old man was sentenced to three months in prison after he pleaded guilty to stealing electronic items from a cellphone and camera accessories shop in Boulevard, Miri.
Magistrate Sandy Yvette Freddy handed down the sentence to Mohammad Elffieydzull Rosli in court proceedings held on Thursday. The sentence takes effect from the date of his arrest, 17 February 2025.

Caught on CCTV Stealing SD Card and USB Pendrive
The incident occurred on 17 February at around 6.40 pm when the accused was seen acting suspiciously near the pendrive display section of the shop. Employees closely monitored his actions and later reviewed CCTV footage, which confirmed that he had taken a 64GB Lenyes SD Card and a 128GB Lenyes USB Pendrive without making payment.

The stolen items, valued at RM168, were hidden inside his trouser pocket. A shop employee immediately pursued him and, with the help of security guards, managed to apprehend him.
Charged Under Section 380 of Penal Code
The accused was charged under Section 380 of the Penal Code, which carries a maximum penalty of 10 years in prison and a fine upon conviction.
The court considered his guilty plea and other factors before passing the three-month jail sentence. The case highlights the importance of vigilance by shop employees and security personnel in preventing theft.
