Kuching | 11 February 2025 | Tuesday – His Happyness Dato Haji Hilmy bin Haji Othman, Mayor of North Kuching, received a courtesy visit from the Malaysian Red Crescent Kuching branch at DBKU Headquarters, Bukit Siol, this morning. The visit focused on exploring future collaboration to benefit the local community in North Kuching.

The Red Crescent delegation, led by Mr. Jee Kouk Hiong, Community Service Head, along with three other officers, discussed ways both parties could work together on community welfare initiatives. One of the key topics highlighted was the importance of raising awareness about life-saving skills like CPR (Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation) and AED (Automated External Defibrillator) usage.
The Mayor shared his ideas and suggestions for joint programs that could help educate the public on these critical skills, emphasizing how such initiatives could potentially save lives. He expressed his enthusiasm for organizing community events in collaboration with the Red Crescent to build a stronger and safer community.

“Teaching CPR and AED to the public is a step towards empowering the community with the ability to act in emergencies. We look forward to working closely with Red Crescent to turn these ideas into reality,” said Dato Haji Hilmy.
Also present during the meeting was Mr. Rudzaimier bin Malek, Deputy Director of DBKU Community Service Department, who echoed the Mayor’s sentiments and emphasized the importance of ongoing community outreach and education.

This visit marks the beginning of a promising collaboration aimed at enhancing public awareness and safety in North Kuching. Future programs will focus on equipping more residents with essential life-saving skills, ensuring the community remains well-prepared in times of crisis.
