KUCHING (Jan 2): Kuching South City Council (MBKS) has made a groundbreaking move this New Year by unveiling its first-ever original New Year song, a heartfelt initiative that celebrates the city’s rich cultural diversity and unity.
Dato Wee Hong Seng, the mayor of Kuching South, shared that this unique effort aims to enrich the festive atmosphere and highlight Kuching’s multicultural identity. “The song reflects our commitment to preserving cultural heritage while fostering harmony and vibrancy for both residents and visitors,” Wee said during a press conference held at the MBKS building.
The event was graced by Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Dr Sim Kui Hian, who commended MBKS for their creative approach to uniting the community.
The song, aptly themed “Reunion, Harmony and Hope”, features uplifting lyrics and a cheerful melody. It beautifully blends Kuching’s local traditions, culinary culture, and modern pop influences. Produced in collaboration with renowned local musicians, the track captures the multicultural essence of the city.
“This song is more than just a tune; it’s a celebration of Kuching’s unique charm and a universal language that brings people together,” Wee said. He expressed hope that it would inspire cultural pride and encourage the younger generation to appreciate local heritage, arts, and cuisine.
MBKS plans to feature the song prominently during New Year celebrations, including in bustling areas like Padungan and the Old Town. The council also encourages residents and visitors to experience the melody through their official channels.
Through this initiative, MBKS aims to strengthen community bonds and position Kuching as a beacon of cultural vibrancy and harmony, spreading joy and unity for the New Year.
