Tiong: Do Not Use Racial and Religious Sentiments to Incite the People
Minister Warns Against Incitement
BINTULU: Arts and Culture Tourism Minister Dato Sri Tiong King Sing has issued a stern warning to certain parties who deliberately use racial and religious sentiments to incite the populace.
During a visit to Rumah Musis Bundung Bala in Jalan Samarakan for the Gawai Dayak celebration, Tiong, who is also the Member of Parliament for Bintulu, emphasized the importance of maintaining national security and harmony among different racial groups. He urged those involved to consider the potential consequences of their actions on the nation’s stability.
Emphasizing National Harmony
“Cross-cultural marriage among the people of this country is not something new,” Tiong stated. “If we, as citizens, cannot maintain sensitivity between races, how do we expect to live in a harmonious atmosphere?”
Tiong reiterated the Sarawak Government’s commitment to the Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63) as the foundation of their efforts to protect the rights and interests of the people in Sarawak. He credited Sarawak Premier Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg for fostering an environment that respects and tolerates all races, religions, and cultures.
Call for Responsible Action
“Once again, I want to emphasize that irresponsible parties should not use racial and religious sentiments to incite the people,” Tiong stressed. “Think about the people and the country before you do something.”
Sarawak’s Family Spirit as a Model
Tiong also highlighted the family spirit in Sarawak as a model for Peninsular Malaysia. He pointed to the harmony in longhouses, where individuals of diverse backgrounds live together under one roof, as a testament to Malaysia’s unique cultural fabric.
“These characteristics make Malaysia unique in the eyes of the world,” Tiong added. “Let them see the various customs and cultures in this country.”
