MIRI, Jan 28 – Continuous heavy rain since last evening (Jan 27) has caused flash floods and landslides, leaving Miri City grappling with severe disruptions.
Several low-lying areas have been submerged, while landslides in Kampung Lereng Bukit and Kampung Haji Wahed have further intensified the challenges for residents.
As of 9:00 am today, the relentless downpour continues, raising concerns about more flooding and landslide risks in the affected regions.

Key roads, including Jalan Miri-Pujut and Jalan Bintang, are now impassable due to floodwaters, leading to heavy traffic congestion. Villagers in Kampung Pujut Tanjong Batu have taken precautions, relocating their vehicles to higher ground along the Miri Bypass.
In residential areas like Senadin, water levels are steadily rising, causing unease among the community.
To address the crisis, a temporary evacuation centre has been set up at Miri Civic Centre, providing shelter to those displaced. The Miri District Office confirmed that the centre was established today to accommodate landslide victims.
The Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) reported that, as of 10:45 am, 23 families—totaling 168 individuals—have been evacuated following the landslide in Kampung Lereng Bukit. Many homes, primarily made of wood, sustained severe damage from the collapse.
Authorities are actively monitoring the situation while extending aid to affected families. Efforts are being made to ensure the safety and well-being of those in the temporary shelter.
Residents are urged to remain vigilant and adhere to safety measures as weather conditions continue to pose risks.
