Sudden Lane Change Led to Collision

Preliminary investigations revealed that the accident happened when a Toyota Camry, driven by a 48-year-old man, was travelling from Sarikei towards Kuching. Upon reaching the location, the victim, who was riding a motorcycle, suddenly switched lanes from the left to the right, directly into the path of the oncoming vehicle.

“The driver of the car attempted to avoid the collision, but the distance was too close. As a result, the right side of the motorcycle was hit, causing the motorcyclist to suffer fatal injuries,” DSP Mathew explained.

Paramedics from Saratok Hospital arrived at the scene and confirmed the victim’s death.

Investigation Ongoing

The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987, which deals with reckless or dangerous driving resulting in death.

Authorities are urging road users to exercise caution and be aware of their surroundings to prevent similar tragedies.
