SARIKEI – The body of a Myanmar national, who fell from a ship last Tuesday, was discovered this morning at Muara Payang, approximately 15 kilometers from where he was last seen.

The 45-year-old man, identified as Min Wai Lin, was found by members of the public at 9:00 a.m., three days after he went missing at the Susur Jambu jetty. According to a spokesperson from Sarawak Fire Operations Center (PGO), the victim’s body was incomplete, with his left leg and right hand missing, believed to be due to animal bites.

The tragedy unfolded when the ship was docking to unload stones. Min Wai Lin’s colleagues, Abdul Khafi and Naing Win Soe, noticed his disappearance around 6:12 a.m. Despite their efforts to save him by throwing a life buoy and lowering a boat, Min Wai Lin tragically drowned.

Following the incident, a search and rescue (SAR) operation began, involving 29 personnel from various agencies, including the Royal Malaysian Police (PDRM), the Civil Defense Force (APM), and the Life Rescue Service (LSS). SAR members conducted water surface searches within a 5-kilometer radius from where Min Wai Lin fell.

The victim’s body has been brought to the Fire Control Center for identification.
