BINTULU (Jan 17): Two men, including the nephew of an 80-year-old woman, have been remanded for seven days to assist in the investigation into her brutal murder on Jan 15.
Bintulu police chief Supt Nixon Joshua Ali confirmed that the suspects, both in their 40s, were apprehended in the Tubau area just four hours after the report was lodged. One of the suspects is a foreigner, while the other is related to the victim.
“The case is being investigated under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder,” Nixon said in a statement.

The shocking crime reportedly stems from the nephew’s unwillingness to care for his ailing aunt. “It is believed that the motive of the crime is because the suspect did not want to care for the victim any more due to her being sick and always causing trouble for him,” Nixon revealed.
The elderly woman was found unconscious in the compound of her home. Police on the scene discovered her body beside a wooden walkway, near an overturned rubbish bin and some bushes. A medical team pronounced her dead at the scene.
Early findings suggest the victim was violently assaulted, with evidence pointing to her being hit and stomped on.
Supt Nixon assured the public that the police are fully committed to ensuring justice is served. “We will not compromise with any individuals or groups involved in criminal activities,” he stressed, urging the public not to speculate on the case.
He also called on anyone with information related to the investigation to contact the Bintulu police headquarters at 086-318304.
This tragic incident has sent shockwaves through the community, highlighting the need for continued vigilance against violence and crime.
