KUCHING, Dec 30: The Che Hia Khor Moral Uplifting Society Sarawak (CHKMUS) has unveiled plans for a groundbreaking healthcare facility with the construction of its 9-storey Kidney Foundation Medical and Commercial Building.
Officiated by Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg during a ceremony at Jalan Laksamana Cheng Ho, this project is set to redefine kidney treatment services in Sarawak.
The facility will house cutting-edge dialysis equipment, capable of serving over 320 patients, and feature commercial spaces to ensure sustainable funding for its operations. Construction is expected to be completed within a few years, offering enhanced accessibility and quality care for kidney patients across the region.
In his speech, Abang Johari commended CHKMUS for its commitment to improving public healthcare. “We have provided 32 dialysis machines to selected centres, but the growing demand highlights the need for greater health awareness,” he said, emphasizing preventive health education alongside medical advancements.
The Sarawak government has been actively supporting dialysis services, with Sarawak Minister of Women, Childhood, and Community Wellbeing Development Dato Sri Fatimah Abdullah frequently advocating for more machines.
The ceremony also saw the presence of notable dignitaries, including Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Dr Sim Kui Hian, Federal Minister of Works Dato Sri Alexander Nanta Linggi, and CHKMUS Kidney Foundation founder Datuk Tay Chin Kin.
Driving Healthcare Excellence
The new facility aligns with Sarawak’s vision to improve healthcare infrastructure while promoting health education. The inclusion of commercial spaces reflects a sustainable approach to funding, ensuring long-term benefits for the community.
This development is a testament to the collaborative efforts between CHKMUS and the Sarawak government in addressing the rising prevalence of kidney diseases.
