Deputy Premier assures seafood restaurants not penalized for displaying fishes
Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Dr. Sim Kui Hian says it’s okay for seafood restaurants to have fish on display. They won’t get in trouble for it, even with the new Protection of Public Health (Amendment) Bill, 2024.
When discussing the Bill, Chong Chieng Jen (DAP-Padungan) brought up concerns. Dr. Sim explained that according to the Bill, ‘food premises’ means any place where food is made, stored, or sold. But it doesn’t include places where animals are kept for food.
The Bill, which was passed yesterday, says animals or pets can’t go into places where food is made or sold.
Dr. Sim also explained to Chong that the Bill’s definition of ‘animals’ isn’t limited. It includes any animal with four legs, like cats and dogs. Chong thought the Bill didn’t include dogs and cats.
