KUCHING: The Podium Street Mall is celebrating its first-ever Halloween with a spooky event called ‘GruesomeWeen,’ planned by Woo Woo Whimsy from October 25 to 27, from 9 am to 9 pm. This exciting event will feature a pop-up market called ‘OctoberFair,’ where local vendors will showcase unique and creative products.
Visitors can expect to see a wide range of items, including handmade crafts, Halloween costumes, spooky snacks, and home décor. Shalane Matthew, the managing director of Woo Woo Whimsy, shared that there will also be Halloween-themed games, a bouncy castle for kids, and lots of photo opportunities. “It’s a fun event for all ages that celebrates the spooky season!” she added.
One of the main attractions is a haunted house that will add to the eerie atmosphere. Visitors can also join competitions, such as the ‘best dressed’ contest, with exciting prizes up for grabs.
Among the local vendors are Beatrix Collection, known for their Bidayuh beadwork, Tuak Ayak Sutteh with their brewed tuak and handicrafts, and Juhara Zen Perfume offering a variety of fragrances. Charity organizations, such as the Sarawak Society for the Deaf, will also be present, displaying their handmade items.
For sweet tooth visitors, Cloud99’s liquid nitrogen ice cream truck will be serving delicious flavors like bubblegum, frozen blue lagoon, and crème brûlée. Additionally, tarot readings will be available, courtesy of the ‘Equatorial Eclectic.’
Kids can enjoy rides in electric cars provided by Toys Mart, located on the ground floor of the mall. And on October 27, Dreamscape will host a workshop where participants can create their own paludarium or terrarium at 2 pm.
Shalane explained that ‘GruesomeWeen’ started as a community-driven event in March to provide a platform for local vendors and has since grown into a popular gathering spot. The Podium Street Mall, opened last September, is a central location known for its modern facilities and scenic backdrop of Mount Serapi.
