KUCHING: Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg was briefed on the latest progress of the Pan Borneo Highway (PBH) project and the Pan Borneo ‘Redline’ by the Public Works Department (PWD) Sarawak. This briefing occurred during a courtesy visit by Works Minister Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi and his team at Wisma Bapa on June 11.

Pan Borneo ‘Redline’ to Be Upgraded

The ‘redline’ denotes the existing original route that was not included in the initial PBH construction plans. These neglected routes are currently in poor condition, prompting the need for urgent upgrades.

“As these routes were not included in the PBH’s construction, they are now in poor condition,” noted the department in a Facebook post. They further explained that all redline routes involving both federal and state roads in Sarawak will undergo redesigning and upgrading to meet the standards set by the Pan Borneo Highway Project.

Strategic Discussions for Sarawak’s Development

In addition to the briefing on the PBH, Minister Nanta mentioned in a separate post that the visit served a dual purpose. It aimed to introduce his ministry’s management line and agencies to the Premier, and to discuss various federal development projects in Sarawak overseen by the Works Ministry and its associated agencies.

This visit underscores the ongoing commitment to improving infrastructure and ensuring the Pan Borneo Highway project meets its objectives, enhancing connectivity and boosting economic growth in the region.
