KUCHING, Jan 20 – The 11th edition of the Premier of Sarawak Environmental Award (PSEA) has set a new milestone with a record-breaking 212 entries, surpassing the number of submissions in previous years. This achievement marks the highest turnout for the award, which has grown significantly since its inception.

According to the Natural Resources and Environment Board (NREB) Sarawak, the PSEA, formerly known as the Chief Minister Environmental Award (CMEA), has been a major biennial event in Sarawak since 2001. The award serves as a platform to honour outstanding contributions towards environmental sustainability, playing an essential role in fostering environmental awareness and responsibility among businesses, organisations, and individuals across the state.

The remarkable surge in participation demonstrates a rising commitment to sustainable practices across various industries in Sarawak. In the 10th edition of the CMEA, there were 144 entries, while the 9th edition recorded 106 entries, showing a consistent upward trend in interest and involvement.
The 11th PSEA award presentation ceremony is scheduled for Wednesday, January 22, at the Imperial Hotel Kuching, where Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg is expected to grace the event. In preparation for the ceremony, a courtesy call was made today by the NREB Sarawak and the PSEA organising committee to brief Premier Abang Johari on the significance of the award and its impact on promoting environmental sustainability in Sarawak.
The Premier’s continuous support for the award highlights the state’s dedication to prioritising environmental conservation and sustainable development. This year’s record-breaking participation serves as a testament to the growing commitment of Sarawak’s people to protect and preserve the environment for future generations.
