KUCHING, July 24 – The city is buzzing with anticipation as the 2024 Kuching Festival Food Fair gears up to welcome visitors this weekend. Promising a record-breaking turnout, this year’s festival is set to be a vibrant celebration of Kuching’s rich cultural heritage.

A Cultural Staple in Sarawak’s Tourism Calendar

The Kuching Festival Food Fair has become a significant event in the Sarawak Tourism Calendar. Attracting both locals and tourists, it offers a unique glimpse into the diverse cultural traditions of Kuching.

Theme: Bridging Generations

The theme for this year’s festival, “Bridging Generations: The Legacy of Our Kuching City,” emphasizes the importance of preserving and showcasing the city’s diverse cultural heritage. Running from July 26 to August 18, the festival promises a variety of events and activities for all ages.

Cultural Performances and Culinary Delights

The festival features an array of cultural performances, culinary delights, and interactive workshops that celebrate Kuching’s rich history and community spirit.

International Delegates and Performances

Mayor Dato Wee Hong Seng announced at the press conference that the festival will host delegates from eight friendship cities: Dongcheng, Quanzhou, Zhenjiang, Chongzhou, Kunming, Taian from China, Guro from Korea, and Toyota City from Japan. These cities will present cultural performances such as Kungfu Fan, The Uyghur Dance, Classical Dance ‘Xiang Yun Fei’, Universal Harmony, Japanese Drumming, and KPOP.

“It promises to be an exciting and culturally enriching experience for all attendees,” said Mayor Wee.

The festival will be inaugurated by Sarawak Deputy Premier and Sarawak Minister for Public Health, Local Government, and Housing, Datuk Amar Dr. Sim Kui Hian.

Mayor Wee expressed gratitude to the festival’s sponsors: the Ministry of Tourism, Creative Industry, and Performing Arts Sarawak, Magnum 4D, Sport Toto, Ibraco, KTS Group, Cash Sweep, Petros, 38 Yayasan Amal Cinta, Love Book Association, Echo Sound, and PPM.

The Mayor’s Walk, with registration beginning on July 29, offers limited-edition T-shirts on a first-come, first-served basis.

“We invite everyone to participate and make this festival a grand success. Let’s come together to celebrate ‘My City, Your City, Our City’,” Wee added.

The 2023 Kuching Festival Food Fair lucky draw event has announced its winners, featuring an array of exciting prizes, including motorbikes, bicycles, laptops, and speakers.

Top Prize Winners

  • First Prize: Charles Bong Hin Joo won a brand-new motorbike.
  • Second Prize: Nur Batrisyia Hamzah won a motorbike.
  • Third Prize: Foo Teck Nyuk won a motorbike.

Collection Details

According to the press handout, the motorbikes can be claimed at Tay Motor, Lot 1475, Block 46, KCLD, 7th Mile Bazaar, Jalan Penrissen, 93250 Kuching, Sarawak.

  • Fourth and Fifth Prizes: Bicycles claimed by Lily Chin and Ku May Fong.
