KUCHING, August 15, 2024 – In anticipation of the grand opening of the SUKMA XXI Sarawak 2024, the Kuching District Police have announced a series of road closures and traffic detours, effective from 3:00 PM on August 17. These measures aim to manage the expected surge in traffic and ensure the safety and smooth flow of vehicles in and around the Sarawak State Stadium area.

Key Intersections and Access Points Affected

Kuching District Police Chief ACP Mohd Farhan Lee Abdullah has provided detailed information on the locations impacted by these road closures. Key intersections and access points, including the Sesco Roundabout, Kesuma Resort Roundabout, and various entry points to the Sarawak State Stadium, will be closed to ensure a controlled traffic environment.

Farhan emphasized that these closures are necessary to handle the large influx of vehicles expected for the opening ceremony, ensuring that traffic does not overwhelm the area.

“Residents are advised to plan their journeys carefully. Those approaching from the Sesco Roundabout should make a U-turn at the Casuarina Roundabout and proceed via Casuarina Road to access Stadium Road (Ring),” stated Farhan.

Detours and Traffic Management

To further assist in managing the traffic, specific detours have been put in place. For instance, a road closure before the Kampung Stadium junction will facilitate the movement of vehicles heading to the event. Additionally, those traveling on Diplomatic Road will have direct access to the parking area behind Sarawak Stadium, minimizing traffic congestion near the event venue.

Exiting the Event: Designated Routes

The police have also outlined specific routes for vehicles leaving the event to ensure a smooth exit and minimize congestion:

  • Vehicles parked at Sarawak Stadium: These vehicles are advised to use Diplomatic Road towards Demak.
  • Vehicles on Stadium Road (Ring): The recommended exit route is via Casuarina Road.

Farhan also advised the public to avoid parking along road shoulders to prevent unnecessary blockages and congestion. He urged drivers to consider alternative routes where possible to alleviate traffic pressure in the main event area.

Public Cooperation and Contact Information

Farhan has called for full public cooperation in adhering to these traffic arrangements. He emphasized the critical role of public compliance in ensuring the safety and efficiency of the event’s traffic management plan.

“We urge the public to cooperate fully with these traffic arrangements. Avoid parking along road shoulders and consider alternative routes to ease traffic flow,” Farhan advised.

For further inquiries or assistance regarding traffic arrangements, the public can contact the Kuching District Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Division at 082-259900.

Conclusion

With the SUKMA XXI opening ceremony set to be a major event in Kuching, these traffic arrangements are crucial to ensuring that everything proceeds smoothly. The public’s cooperation will be vital in making this event a success, and by following the police’s guidelines, the city can look forward to a safe and organized celebration.
