KUCHING, Jan 1 – The Sarawak Road Transport Department (RTD) issued 360 notices for various traffic offences during an extensive ‘Op Khas Motosikal’ operation yesterday (Dec 31).

These violations were identified during 2,310 inspections conducted throughout Sarawak. The operation primarily targeted motorcyclists to ensure compliance with the Road Transport Act 1987 and related regulations.

Among the common offences detected were driving without a valid licence, expired road tax, transporting hazardous loads using commercial vehicles, and using high-intensity discharge (HID) lights. Other technical violations were also highlighted.

RTD emphasized the importance of these operations in maintaining road safety and curbing dangerous driving behaviours. The department reiterated its commitment to identifying and taking action against non-compliance, particularly among motorcyclists who are most vulnerable on the roads.

“As part of our enforcement measures, we urge all road users to strictly follow traffic regulations. Safety on the roads is a shared responsibility,” stated an RTD spokesperson.

To facilitate public reporting of traffic violations, the department encouraged citizens to use the e-Aduan@JPJ application or visit http://jpj.spab.gov.my. Complaints should include detailed information to aid enforcement actions.

With the holiday season in full swing, RTD reminded the public to exercise caution and prioritise road safety. Regular inspections and strict enforcement are expected to continue in 2024 to promote safer roads for all.
