Kota Kinabalu: Sabah Parks has confirmed the temporary closure of an island substation in Semporna after a suspected World War 2 bomb was found in the seabed. The Sibuan Island substation, located in the Tun Sakaran Marine Park, was closed for safety reasons at 12.30pm on Tuesday.
According to a statement shared on their official Facebook page, the closure is necessary until the situation is fully assessed and deemed safe. Sabah Parks emphasized that the safety of both the public and staff is their top priority, and they are working closely with the relevant authorities to manage the situation.
The suspected bomb was discovered during routine marine activities, sparking an immediate response from local authorities and bomb disposal experts. The area has been cordoned off, and the substation will remain closed until the threat is cleared.
Sabah Parks also expressed regret for any inconvenience caused by the closure, ensuring that they are doing everything possible to resolve the situation swiftly and safely.
Visitors planning to visit Sibuan Island or engage in activities at the marine park are advised to stay updated on the situation and follow official announcements for further instructions.
