Serian Mourns the Loss of Senior Soldier Joanna Felicia Rhona
In a somber ceremony filled with grief and sorrow, the late Senior Soldier Joanna Felicia Rhona was laid to rest in the Kampung Engkaroh Christian Cemetery, adhering to the traditions of the Royal Malaysian Navy (RLDM). The funeral, held on Thursday, was a poignant moment as dignitaries, family members, relatives, and villagers gathered to bid farewell to a beloved member of their community.
Joanna’s body found its final resting place at 11:20 am, surrounded by loved ones who had come to pay their respects for the last time. The atmosphere was heavy with emotion, particularly for her late husband, Hasley Ali, and their children, as well as extended family members who had endured the tragedy of losing her in a helicopter crash at the TLDM Base in Lumut, Perak, just days prior.
Following the burial, First Admiral Ir. Ts. Franklin Jeyasekhar Joseph solemnly handed over the TLDM flag to Joanna’s grieving husband, symbolizing the Navy’s recognition of her service and sacrifice. Among those who came to offer their final farewells were Major General Datuk Mohamed Fauzi Kamis, Commander of the First Division of the Malaysian Infantry (1 Div), Serian Member of Parliament Dato Sri Richard Riot Jeam, and Lieutenant General (B) Datuk Stephen Mundaw, Adviser of the Army Ranger Corps Veterans Association (PVTKR).
The loss of Joanna Felicia Rhona is deeply felt, not only by her family but by the entire community of Serian, as they come together to mourn and honor her memory.
