KUCHING, 19 February 2025 – The Sarawak Government continues to strengthen its health and housing assistance systems, ensuring the well-being of its people. With a strong commitment to efficiency, the state government is also working towards gaining autonomy in the health sector from the Federal Government.
Deputy Premier of Sarawak, Datuk Amar Professor Dr Sim Kui Hian, emphasized that rabies remains a critical health issue in the state. He reaffirmed the government’s dedication to combating the disease as part of its efforts to enhance Sarawak’s healthcare system.

“In 2024 alone, a total of 106 vaccination, licensing, and microchip marking programs were carried out in collaboration with local authorities,” Dr Sim stated during the Sarawak Ministry of Public Health, Housing and Local Government (MPHLG) Honors Ceremony on Monday.
He revealed that as part of these initiatives:
- 8,491 dog licenses were issued.
- 3,901 microchips were implanted.
Notably, the government has waived dog licensing fees, encouraging more pet owners to register their dogs without financial burden.
Affordable Housing for Sarawakians
Apart from health, the state government is also prioritizing affordable housing to support low- and middle-income groups. Dr Sim highlighted the success of the Housing Deposit and Payment Assistance Scheme (HDRAS), which has benefited 1,834 homebuyers since its launch in 2022.
“A house is more than just a place to live; it is a fundamental necessity that fosters a prosperous community. The ministry is committed to ensuring housing projects are developed with adequate infrastructure for the benefit of all Sarawakians,” he added.
The ceremony was also attended by MPHLG Deputy Minister Datuk Dr Penguang Manggil and Datuk Michael Tiang Ming Tee, who echoed the state’s commitment to improving public welfare through health and housing initiatives.
With these efforts, the Sarawak Government is taking significant strides towards enhancing public health and making homeownership more accessible, ensuring a better quality of life for its people.
