The team, consisting of nine athletes and 11 officials, was led by Chi Poh Yung, team manager and president of the Sarawak Boccia Association. Together, they secured three gold, four silver, and one bronze medals.

Bronze Medal

The final circuit saw participation from 40 top-ranked athletes representing 10 states and territories, including Penang, Perak, Selangor, Kuala Lumpur, and Johor.

Chi Poh Yung expressed his satisfaction with the team’s consistent performance throughout the year, including success at the Para Sukma XXI.

“Our athletes performed exceptionally well, meeting medal expectations. This was achieved through strict training programmes, high discipline, and strong parental and departmental support,” said Chi.

However, Chi highlighted a pressing need for proper boccia training facilities in Sarawak.

“We currently lack standard boccia courts in Kuching, Limbang, and Sibu. Our athletes often move between venues, which disrupts their training schedules,” he added.

Chi expressed gratitude to Sarawak Megalanes, Emart Batu Kawa, and the Samarahan Rehabilitation Centre for providing temporary training venues. He also appealed to corporate bodies and developers to help establish a dedicated training hall for boccia athletes.
