Sarawak Governor Graces Miri’s ‘Unity Night’ Chinese New Year Gala

MIRI: The 2025 Chinese New Year celebrations in Miri were filled with joy and unity as the Sarawak Governor, Tun Pehin Sri Dr. Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar, and his wife, Toh Puan Datuk Patinggi Fauziah Mohd Sanusi, joined the local community for a grand festive gathering.

Held at the Grand Ballroom, Eastwood Valley Golf and Country Club, the Grand Chinese New Year Celebration Banquet Dinner 2025 – Unity Night brought together over 620 guests, including key state leaders. The event, organised by the Federation of Chinese Associations Miri Division, highlighted Sarawak’s cultural harmony and multiracial unity.

State Leaders Emphasise Unity and Diversity

In his speech, Dato Sri Lee Kim Shin praised the Chinese community’s contributions to Sarawak’s development and stressed the importance of maintaining unity among different ethnic groups.

“Sarawak is the best example of unity in diversity. Events like this not only strengthen interracial relationships but also foster a stronger sense of togetherness among the people,” he said.

Cultural Performances and Symbolic Traditions

The evening was filled with lively cultural performances that showcased the traditions of various races in Sarawak. Guests also participated in the traditional ‘Yee Sang’ prosperity toss, symbolising good fortune for the year ahead.

The highlight of the night was a special photography session with the Sarawak Governor and other distinguished guests, further cementing the significance of the celebration.

Gratitude for Government’s Support

Dato David Goh Kien Ping, President of the Federation of Chinese Associations Miri Division, expressed his heartfelt appreciation for the presence of the Sarawak Governor and state leaders.

“We deeply value the state government’s strong support in ensuring that the Chinese community in Sarawak continues to thrive and progress. The Governor’s presence tonight is a testament to the fact that unity is the foundation of Sarawak’s harmony,” he said.

With the theme ‘Unity Night’, the event served as more than just a banquet—it was a powerful reminder of Sarawak’s strength in cultural inclusivity and mutual respect among its people.
