KUCHING, 12 Feb 2025 – The Sarawak Premier’s Department celebrated the Chinese New Year 2025 in a grand ceremony at the Sarawak State Legislative Assembly Atrium. Sarawak Premier YAB Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri (Dr) Abang Johari bin Tun Abg Openg and his wife, YABhg Datuk Amar Puan Sri Hajjah Jumaani Tun Tuanku Haji Bujang, graced the event, spreading festive cheer and fostering unity among all attendees.

In his speech, the Sarawak Premier expressed heartfelt gratitude for the many successes and blessings enjoyed over the past year. He emphasized the importance of reflection and appreciation for the achievements that have strengthened the state and its people.
The Premier also extended his thanks to Sarawak’s civil servants from various religious and ethnic backgrounds for their dedication and contributions. “I am very excited and grateful to the Sarawak State Secretary and all civil servants who have emphasized the 3R principle—revisit, rethink, and recharge—in improving and transforming the public service sector to be world-class,” he said.

The ceremony began with a welcoming address by YBhg Datu Hii Chang Kee, Deputy Secretary to the Sarawak Government (Operations) and Chairman of the 2025 Chinese New Year Celebration Organizing Committee. He highlighted the significance of the event in promoting harmony and appreciation for Sarawak’s cultural diversity.
The event was attended by key state leaders, including Deputy Premier YB Datuk Amar Prof Dr Sim Kui Hian, Deputy Premier YB Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hassan, and other prominent figures such as YB Tan Sri Datuk Amar Awang Mohamad Asfia Awg Nassar, Speaker of the State Legislative Assembly. Ministers, deputy ministers, and dignitaries also joined in the joyous occasion.

The Chinese New Year 2025 celebration served as a powerful reminder of Sarawak’s unity, resilience, and shared future.
