Strategic Upgrades to Host International Competitions
KUCHING (Aug 12) — The Sarawak Wushu Training Centre, located within the Sarawak Sports Complex in Petra Jaya, is set to undergo significant upgrades to become a premier competition venue for the 2027 Southeast Asian (SEA) Games. This development is part of Sarawak’s ambitious plan to showcase its readiness to co-host the prestigious regional sports event.
Investment in State-of-the-Art Facilities
The Minister of Youth, Sports and Entrepreneur Development, Dato Sri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah, announced the forthcoming enhancements after the soft opening ceremony of the training centre. He emphasized the importance of these upgrades in positioning Sarawak as a key player in the 2027 SEA Games. “With Sarawak expected to be a co-host for SEA Games 2027 in Malaysia, we have formally requested the Ministry of Youth and Sports (KBS) to include wushu as one of the events held here,” Rahman Hamzah stated.
Key Upgrades to Enhance Competitor Experience
One of the primary upgrades includes installing a new central air-conditioning system at the centre, a crucial improvement to meet international competition standards. The cost of this installation is projected to be several million ringgit. “Hosting regional events like the SEA Games necessitates a substantial investment in our facilities,” Rahman Hamzah explained. “These enhancements will ensure that our centre meets the high expectations of both competitors and spectators.”
