Sarawak’s Economic Success: Revenue Triples Under Abang Johari’s Leadership

SIBU (Jan 11): Sarawak has achieved remarkable economic growth under the leadership of Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg, with the state’s revenue tripling since he assumed office in 2017.

“When I first became Chief Minister, Sarawak’s revenue was between RM5 billion and RM6 billion. Now, it is three times higher because of the unity among our people,” he said during the groundbreaking ceremony for the Jalan Teku Pasai – Kemuyang Road project here today.

Abang Johari highlighted that Sarawak’s current revenue exceeds RM14 billion, a significant milestone for the state. He credited the achievement to innovative policies and strong collaboration within the Cabinet. Sarawak’s economic resilience is further evident in its RM15 billion state budget, surpassing the combined budgets of all the states in Peninsula Malaysia.

Transforming Sarawak’s Infrastructure and Economy

Abang Johari also emphasized the state’s advancements in infrastructure and connectivity. “Our roads have increased, and internet services will be upgraded,” he said, showcasing the government’s commitment to modernizing Sarawak.

Marking his eighth anniversary as Sarawak’s leader, Abang Johari expressed optimism about continued economic progress in the new year. He also introduced the Sarawak Basic Needs Assistance Contribution (SKAS) programme, designed to provide essential items to the people, demonstrating his administration’s focus on inclusive development.

Unity as the Key to Success

Highlighting Sarawak’s racial and religious harmony, Abang Johari attributed the state’s economic achievements to its cohesive society. “When the people are united, we can find ways to increase our revenue and ensure progress for everyone,” he added.

The ceremony was attended by prominent state leaders, including Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas, and several other ministers and assembly members.
