KUCHING: The famous Satok Ramadan Bazaar is back in action this year, once again drawing crowds with its wide variety of delicious and unique iftar dishes. Known as one of the most vibrant Ramadan bazaars in Sarawak, this year’s event offers 94 stalls selling all kinds of food and drinks, perfect for breaking fast.
The grand opening was officially launched by Sarawak Deputy Minister of Utilities and Telecommunications, Datuk Dr Abdul Rahman Junaidi, who also holds responsibility for Islamic Affairs and DBKU. During the event, Datuk Dr Abdul Rahman took the opportunity to present cash donations to 10 selected asnaf as a gesture of community care during the holy month.

One of the highlights this year is the introduction of new and exciting menus that caught the attention of visitors. According to a report from UKAS journalist, Maryam Zanariah Ibrahim, several dishes made their first appearance at the bazaar, offering a fresh culinary experience for food lovers.

Among the new stars is the Nasi Ayam Ketuk, a unique dish quickly gaining popularity in Sarawak. The dish’s creator, Sofian Japar, who also owns My Village Barok restaurant at Kampung Boyan, shared that this is the first time the famous dish is sold at the bazaar, following strong customer demand.
“In Kampung Boyan, it’s always crowded, so we decided to introduce our food at Satok Ramadan Bazaar to make it easier for customers to enjoy. Previously, we sold Camel Biryani Rice, followed by Mongolian Barbeque and Siamese Tofu. Every year, we like to offer something new,” Sofian explained.
What makes Nasi Ayam Ketuk special is its preparation method. The chicken is tapped using bamboo, allowing the sambal to fully penetrate the meat, enhancing the flavour. It’s served with fish masak lemak and fragrant rice, creating a rich and satisfying dish.
Another fresh entry is the Naan Roti Pita, introduced by local food vendor Abdul Halim from Kuching. Previously known for selling kebabs and shawarma, Abdul Halim decided to offer something different this year.
“I wanted to create a new menu and found inspiration through social media. Our Naan Roti Pita includes fresh vegetables, cucumbers, chicken, and marinated meat, all wrapped in our homemade pita bread,” he said.
With a mix of traditional favourites and new creative menus, the Satok Ramadan Bazaar 2025 is the perfect place for locals and tourists to experience the true flavours of Sarawak’s Ramadan. From classic dishes to innovative food creations, this year’s bazaar promises a memorable iftar experience for everyone. — UKAS EDITION
