KUCHING, February 9, 2025 – The Seng Goon Basketball Courts were brimming with excitement as hundreds of runners gathered for the SBA Lunar New Year Run 2025, marking the beginning of the Year of the Wood Snake. The early morning streets came alive with participants of all ages, taking on 3km and 5km routes at 6:30 AM. It was more than just a run—it was a community celebration blending festive cheer with a focus on health and fitness.
Deputy Premier of Sarawak, Dr Sim Kui Hian, graced the event, encouraging the runners and applauding the organizers for promoting a healthy lifestyle. His presence further uplifted the already lively atmosphere.

The Kuching Happy Runners Club, the main organizer, ensured a smooth and well-coordinated event. Runfluencer, a well-known running club in Kuching, also participated with full enthusiasm. Gwen Chong, team captain of Runfluencer, expressed her satisfaction with the event, praising its organization and community spirit.

Despite the less-than-perfect weather, runners were undeterred, filling the streets with determination and smiles. The most awaited part of the event was the lucky draw, featuring RM888 as the grand prize—bringing extra luck and joy to one fortunate winner. Additionally, 20 other participants received Ang Paos, filled with blessings and good fortune for the new year.
