According to a press release, the charity run recorded an impressive turnout with 1,030 participants in Kuching, 649 in Sibu, and 627 in Miri. These numbers highlight the strong community spirit and commitment to championing inclusivity in sports.

The Kuching leg of the event, held today, was officiated by Sarawak Deputy Minister of Women, Childhood, and Community Wellbeing Development (Community Wellbeing) Datuk Mohammad Razi Sitam and Kuching South City Council (MBKS) Mayor Dato Wee Hong Seng.

In his opening remarks, Mohammad Razi expressed his pride in the accomplishments of Sarawak’s deaf athletes. He applauded SDSA for organising such a meaningful initiative and emphasized the importance of continuous support from corporations and the public.

“This event showcases the incredible potential of our deaf athletes. With adequate training and infrastructure, I believe they can achieve outstanding results in both national and international sports events,” he said.

He further encouraged collaborative efforts to ensure that deaf athletes have access to the resources and opportunities needed to excel in their respective sports.

The Silent Run 2024 not only celebrated the resilience and determination of deaf athletes but also united the Sarawak community in fostering greater awareness and inclusivity.
