KUCHING (Dec 23): Stampin MP Chong Chieng Jen has announced the continuation of the Stampin Primary School Digitalisation Programme, aimed at equipping all 35 primary schools in the constituency with smart televisions (TVs).
Under this initiative, the Democratic Action Party (DAP) Sarawak chairman highlighted that these smart TVs will support teaching and learning, as well as other educational activities.
“This digitalisation programme was launched this year and will continue into next year, benefiting approximately 15,000 pupils across the constituency, including those from Chinese primary schools, mission schools, and national schools,” Chong said in a statement.
The programme’s pilot project has already been implemented in several Chinese schools, showing positive outcomes. Students have demonstrated increased enthusiasm for learning, while teachers find it easier to deliver lessons through the smart TV platform.
In addition to enhancing teaching methods, the initiative introduces students, especially those from underprivileged backgrounds, to modern technology and internet usage. “Many students lack access to smart gadgets at home. This programme gives them hands-on experience in the classroom,” Chong explained.
Smart TVs function similarly to smartphones, allowing internet connectivity and access to platforms like Google and YouTube. They can also serve as tools for extracurricular activities, such as internet surfing.
On a related note, Chong revealed that RM70,000 has been allocated to SK Garland for the installation of six smart TVs, with the handing-over ceremony taking place earlier today.
“For the remaining smart TVs, the allocation will be provided next year,” he said, adding that SK Garland, with its 12 classrooms, will soon benefit from the complete installation.
