KOTA BHARU (Nov 29): Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) candidates from schools affected by floods can now sit for their examinations at any designated SPM examination centre, according to Education Minister Fadhlina Sidek.

Fadhlina assured that the ministry is committed to ensuring no candidate misses their exams, even in flood-affected states. She highlighted that special examination centres have been prepared to accommodate displaced candidates, ensuring continuity despite the challenging circumstances.

“My ministry has made arrangements for SPM candidates to sit for their exams in alternative centres if their schools are impacted by floods. This ensures every candidate has the opportunity to complete their exams,” said Fadhlina during a visit to flood victims at Sekolah Kebangsaan Demit’s temporary relief centre.

To further support students, the ministry has established psychosocial initiatives to assist candidates who may have faced trauma due to floods. Monitoring the weather, ensuring students’ welfare, and managing unforeseen challenges remain top priorities for the ministry.

“We are taking every step necessary to guarantee that students can attend their exams without obstacles. This includes logistical support and proactive measures,” she added.

Additionally, addressing the issue of Malaysian students residing in Golok, Thailand, and crossing into Rantau Panjang for schooling, Fadhlina confirmed the situation will be resolved by Dec 1. Approximately 100 students have been placed in hostels, and valid travel passes have been arranged to eliminate the need for illegal crossings via Sungai Golok.

Parents are also given options for their children to either reside in hostels or live with nearby relatives. This approach ensures safety and convenience for the students while maintaining access to quality education.

These efforts reflect the ministry’s commitment to supporting students through both environmental and logistical challenges.
