Severe Weather Causes Extensive Damage in Kuala Lumpur
On Monday afternoon, a powerful storm tore through Kuala Lumpur, uprooting five trees and causing significant damage to a house and at least eight vehicles. The Fire and Rescue Department reported that the storm hit around 3:30 p.m., resulting in several incidents across the city.
Incident at Menara Prestige
One of the most notable incidents occurred outside Menara Prestige on Jalan Pinang. A tree fell at approximately 3:30 p.m., damaging three cars and five motorcycles parked in the area. The fallen tree narrowly missed a car carrying Malacca Chief Minister Datuk Seri Abdul Rauf Yusoh, who was passing through during the heavy downpour. A lead police patrol car in his convoy was struck by the tree, but no injuries were reported.
Road Closures and Cleanup Efforts
The affected section of Jalan Pinang was closed for about two hours as cleanup crews worked to clear the debris and ensure the safety of the area. The road has since been reopened to traffic, according to the Fire and Rescue Department.
Additional Damage Across the City
The storm caused further disruptions in other parts of Kuala Lumpur:
- On Jalan Rahmat in Taman Gombak, a tree fell, obstructing the road and causing traffic delays.
- Another tree fell on Jalan Selasih Satu, damaging the roof of a house.
- At the University of Malaya, two trees fell—one at the Medical Faculty and another near the University’s Examination Building, damaging two vehicles.
Fire and Rescue Department Response
The Fire and Rescue Department responded promptly to the multiple reports of fallen trees and damage. Their swift action helped minimize further disruption and ensured that affected areas were cleared efficiently.
The department has urged residents to remain cautious and report any additional incidents of fallen trees or damage to the authorities for prompt assistance.
