Sarawak’s Men’s Softball Team Eyes Semi-Final Spot After Narrow Loss
MIRI (Aug 15) – The Sarawak men’s softball team faced a tough start at the 21st Malaysian Games (Sukma XXI) with a narrow defeat against Johor in their opening match. Despite the 9-8 loss, the team remains optimistic about their chances of advancing to the semi-finals and ultimately securing a top-four finish.
Sarawak’s Narrow Defeat in Opening Match
In an intense match held this morning at the IKBN Miri field, Sarawak’s men’s softball team was edged out by Johor with a slim one-point margin. Head coach Aaron Abel Donald expressed his disappointment but remained upbeat about the team’s prospects for the rest of the tournament.
“Our Sarawak boys played hard in their first match against Johor, but unfortunately, we lost 9-8,” said Coach Donald. “Despite the setback, the players gave their best effort. It came down to a few minor mistakes, but this is just the beginning. We are still in the fight, and our next match is crucial.”
Team’s Goal: Semi-Final Berth
Coach Donald emphasized that the team’s primary objective is to advance to the semi-finals. He expressed confidence in their ability to bounce back and highlighted the importance of their next game against Selangor.
“Our target is to progress to the top four and eventually compete for the gold medal,” he explained. “Winning the next match will be key to reaching the semi-finals. We are determined to fight for a place in the final and bring home a medal.”
Donald also called on Sarawakians to show their support as the team continues their campaign on home turf.
“I encourage more Sarawakians to come out and support us,” he urged. “This is our home ground, and we will fight till the end. Your support will mean a lot to us.”
