KUCHING – A night of harrowing emergencies unfolded in the Kuching region on August 15-16, as firefighters from various stations swiftly responded to three critical incidents, showcasing their dedication and efficiency.

In the first incident, a 40-year-old male driver narrowly escaped death when his four-wheel-drive vehicle veered off the road and plunged into a steep ditch along Jalan Kuala Tatau in Kampung Jepak. The Bintulu Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) received the emergency call at 10:22 PM on August 15. The incident required an immediate response to ensure the driver’s safety.

Upon arrival, Bomba personnel found that the driver had managed to exit the vehicle independently before their arrival. The firefighters used a scoop stretcher to transport the injured man to the roadside for medical treatment. Following this, he was transported to the nearest medical facility by an Emergency Medical Rescue Service (EMRS) vehicle. The swift actions of the Bomba team were crucial in providing timely medical assistance and ensuring the driver’s well-being.

Just minutes later, at 10:36 PM, another emergency call came in regarding a fire at a plastic stockpile owned by WCT Construction. The stockpile, located along KM 34 of the Pan Borneo Highway between Bintulu and Tatau, was reported to be engulfed in flames. The Tatau Fire Station dispatched a team to handle the blaze.

Firefighting Efforts

The firefighters arrived at the scene to find the stockpile, covering an area of approximately 20 by 40 meters, fully ablaze. Utilizing a 200-foot hose, the team worked diligently to control and extinguish the fire. By 11:26 PM, the fire was fully extinguished, and the surrounding area was secured to prevent any further hazards. The rapid response and effective use of resources were instrumental in managing the fire and minimizing potential damage.

The series of emergencies continued into the early hours of August 16. At 1:13 AM, a call came in reporting a fire at a semi-permanent farmhouse on Jalan Kong Ping, Tapah, Siburan. The Siburan Fire Station quickly mobilized its firefighters to the scene.

Upon arrival, firefighters encountered a farmhouse that was completely engulfed in flames. Despite facing challenges such as narrow access roads, the team effectively utilized water from a nearby pond to control and extinguish the blaze. By 5:30 AM, the fire was fully contained, with no injuries reported. The successful operation highlighted the firefighters’ resilience and adaptability in dealing with difficult conditions.
