As the nation celebrates Malaysia Day, one of Kuching’s most renowned running clubs, The Runfluencer, marked the conclusion of their participation in the Run Liga Malaysia Challenge 2024. In a spectacular feat, the team collectively ran a total of 6,330 kilometers over 30 days, placing 41st among 129 teams from across Malaysia.
The Runfluencer’s Journey in the Run Liga Malaysia Challenge
The Run Liga Malaysia Challenge is an annual event that invites running teams from across the country to log their collective mileage over a span of one month. With a target to cover as many kilometers as possible, the challenge has gained popularity among fitness enthusiasts, especially in major cities like Kuching.
The Runfluencer, led by their captain Gwen Chong, participated with determination and enthusiasm. The team’s performance in the challenge has earned them a respectable 41st position, contributing significantly to Sarawak’s representation in the nationwide event.
A Special Malaysia Day Run
To commemorate the final day of the challenge, which coincided with Malaysia Day, The Runfluencer organized a special community run. Members had the choice of running either 16.90 kilometers or 9.16 kilometers, symbolizing the date of Malaysia Day, 16th September. The run started early in the morning at the Kuching Waterfront, where participants gathered before embarking on their respective runs.

Captain Gwen Chong made sure to organize the event with precision. The group was split into two running teams based on the distance they would cover. Below is the list of participants:

Additionally, a shorter 1.69km run was arranged for specific members, Joy and Eric, who participated in the symbolic run to honor the occasion.
Safety and Spirit of Togetherness
In her announcement, Captain Gwen reminded all participants to wear the official Runfluencer T-shirt, or alternatively, a bright green tee for those who didn’t have the club’s shirt. Safety was prioritized as each runner was encouraged to wear blinkers and carry their own water. As always, the sense of community and camaraderie within the group was evident as they embarked on the run in the early hours of the day.
Post-Run Celebration at Kuching Waterfront
After completing the run, all members gathered at the scenic Kuching Waterfront for a light breakfast to celebrate their achievement and the end of the challenge. The refreshment menu was generously sponsored by the team members, reflecting their shared bond and teamwork throughout the event.
The team celebrated with smiles, laughter, and of course, a great sense of accomplishment. The event was a perfect conclusion to both Malaysia Day and the Run Liga Malaysia Challenge, with the team expressing their gratitude to each other for their contributions, both in the run and during the breakfast gathering.
