KUCHING, 5 March 2025 – Three semi-permanent houses in Jalan Kampung Tabuan Melayu, Tabuan Jaya, were completely destroyed in a fire that broke out late this afternoon. Thankfully, fast action from the fire brigade managed to control the blaze before it spread further.
The Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department Operations Centre received an emergency call at 6.00pm and immediately dispatched firefighters from Tabuan Jaya Fire and Rescue Station (BBP) to the scene. The operation was also supported by teams from Padungan BBP and Batu Lintang BBP.

According to Operations Commander PBK II Syamsyul Mustapha, the fire involved three semi-permanent houses. One of the houses, a 15×40-foot double-storey unit, was completely burned down. Another 30×40-foot house also suffered total destruction in the blaze.

The third house, also measuring 30×40 feet, escaped total destruction but still sustained about 30 percent fire damage.
Firefighters worked quickly, using two water streams with four nozzles, attacking the flames from both the left and right sides of the burning structures. Water supply was sourced directly from nearby fire hydrants, supported by transport pumps for relay pumping to maintain consistent water pressure.
As of 9.00pm, firefighters were still carrying out overhaul work at the site to ensure no hidden flames could reignite the fire. The cause of the blaze is still under investigation, and no casualties have been reported so far.
This incident serves as an important reminder for residents, especially those living in wooden or semi-permanent houses, to always check electrical wiring and practice fire safety at home.
The quick response from the Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department prevented this fire from becoming a larger disaster in the densely populated Tabuan Melayu area.
