Three Suspects Released on Bond After Sg Tapang Murder Remand Ends

KUCHING (Dec 10): The Magistrates’ Court in Kuching has granted the release of three men, who were arrested in connection with the murder of a 22-year-old man in a gated apartment complex at Jalan Sungai Tapang, after their remand period expired.

Magistrate Mason Jaro Lenya Barayan approved the police’s application to release the suspects on a RM15,000 bond with one local surety each, under Section 118 of the Criminal Procedure Code. These suspects had been remanded since December 2, assisting police in their investigations under Section 302 of the Penal Code, which pertains to murder.

The trio were represented by different counsels in court. The first suspect was defended by Wong Kwong Kiung and Arthur Liang Dawat, while the second suspect had Voon Lee Shan as their legal counsel. One of the suspects did not have legal representation.

Padawan police chief Supt Mohd Irwan Hafiz Md Radzi confirmed to The Borneo Post that investigations are still ongoing. Authorities are continuing their efforts to locate other suspects who are still at large.

The police were alerted to the crime on December 1 at around 4:40 a.m. when a call was made regarding an altercation at the apartment complex. Upon their arrival, officers discovered the victim’s body, which had been fatally slashed in one of the rooms of his unit. The three suspects were arrested within hours of the grim discovery.
