TATAU, Sept 27 – Two large crocodiles were captured today at Sungai Annap, Batang Tatau, in a harrowing development tied to the search for missing six-year-old Cicilia Julan Intik. The girl was feared to have been dragged underwater by a crocodile over a week ago.
In a grim discovery, human teeth were found inside the stomach of one of the captured crocodiles, according to Sinchew Sarawak. The crocodiles were caught following a summoning ritual conducted by a local shaman after Cicilia’s grieving family sought alternative measures on Wednesday, Sept 25, when search and recovery efforts proved unsuccessful after eight days.
The Sarawak Forestry Corporation (SFC) launched an ongoing operation yesterday (Sept 26) to catch more crocodiles along a five-kilometre stretch of the river. Authorities have restricted all activities within this area until Oct 7 to ensure public safety.
In video footage shared by Bintulu News Page and Sinchew Sarawak, a large crowd gathered as one of the massive crocodiles was pulled to shore with the assistance of local villagers and authorities. Bystanders could be heard gasping in shock at the size of the creature. The crocodile was dissected on-site to examine its contents, with human remains suspected.
The discovery has gripped the local community, as villagers mourn the loss and await further updates in the search for Cicilia Julan Intik.
