Education and Training as Key Pillars

In his message, Wan Junaidi called for greater emphasis on education, training, and skill development. He underlined the importance of mastering fields such as Mathematics, English, Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) to prepare the younger generation for future demands.

“The success of the Chinese community in STEM fields serves as an inspiration. Their achievements prove that excellence in education and skills development can lead to the creation of a high-quality workforce,” he added.

To support this vision, he urged Sarawakians to take full advantage of the state government’s initiatives, including free tertiary education starting in 2026. This initiative, spearheaded by Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg, aims to increase access to quality education in state-owned higher learning institutions.

“This move strengthens human capital development and contributes significantly to the socio-economic progress of Sarawak,” he said.

Cross-Community Collaboration for Inclusive Growth

Wan Junaidi also encouraged collaboration between the Bumiputera and Chinese communities, leveraging their respective expertise in various sectors such as economy, entrepreneurship, and sports.

“By working together, opportunities for knowledge and skills exchange will enhance competitiveness and contribute to inclusive and progressive development,” he noted.

He further emphasized the need to foster cross-racial integration through concrete actions rather than theoretical discussions.

“Prioritising principles of meritocracy and unity will lead to holistic and equitable development, ensuring long-term prosperity and harmony in Sarawak,” he stated.

Addressing Rising Costs of Living

Acknowledging the rising cost of living, Wan Junaidi expressed concern for the low- and middle-income groups struggling to cope with increasing prices of basic necessities. He lauded the Sarawak government for allocating RM460 million under the Sarawak Basic Needs Contribution (SKAS) programme, which has benefited approximately 800,000 recipients.

“This initiative reflects the government’s commitment to easing the people’s burden, and I hope such efforts will not only continue but be further enhanced to guarantee the well-being of Sarawakians,” he said.

Focus on Renewable Energy and High Technology

In line with Sarawak’s development priorities, Wan Junaidi highlighted the importance of focusing on high technology and renewable energy. He praised the Premier’s strategic initiatives in this area, which align with the state’s vision for sustainable growth.

He reiterated the need for Sarawak to build a skilled workforce capable of contributing to strategic sectors driven by technological advancements.

“This step is crucial for ensuring Sarawak’s children are ready to meet the needs of the future,” he concluded.

Unity and Prosperity in Diversity

As Sarawak celebrates the Year of the Dragon, Wan Junaidi expressed his hope for unity and cooperation among all communities to achieve shared prosperity. He wished all Sarawakians a joyous Chinese New Year and urged everyone to work together towards building a harmonious, progressive, and competitive society.
