Ongoing Search and Rescue Operation for Lenya Sigat

SARIKEI: The search for Lenya Sigat, a 62-year-old woman who went missing near Sungai Baron, is still underway. The Sarikei Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) launched the search and rescue (SAR) operation on Thursday, June 6, following a report from the police.

Details of the Incident

Lenya’s disappearance was first noticed by her sibling on Thursday afternoon. The sibling, along with villagers, searched for her at a nearby bathing spot in front of Rumah Tury. However, the worsening weather conditions hindered their efforts, and they were unable to find any trace of her. The family subsequently reported her missing to the authorities on June 7.

Initial Findings

During the initial search, Bomba discovered a white paint can and Lenya’s personal belongings, including soap and clothing, which had drifted downstream from the bathing spot. This prompted a coordinated SAR operation, dividing the search area into four designated sectors: A, B, C, and D.

Search Efforts

At 2.30 pm, a team comprising three firefighters, three police officers, and twelve local villagers began their search in Sector A, covering a one-kilometre radius from the control post. Despite their extensive efforts, the SAR team had not located Lenya or found any new leads by 5.13 pm on Thursday.

Next Steps

The search has been postponed until tomorrow morning, June 8, due to the challenging conditions. The SAR team remains hopeful and committed to finding Lenya.
