KUCHING, March 22 – A driver was successfully rescued after being trapped in his vehicle following a self-accident at Sungai Batu Bridge, Kampung Tapah, early this morning.
The Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) received a distress call at 4.16 am and quickly deployed a team from the Siburan Fire Station to the scene.
Driver Trapped After Collision
Upon arrival, firefighters discovered that a Perodua Viva had crashed at the bridge. While two passengers had already managed to escape before rescue teams arrived, the driver remained trapped in the driver’s seat.

Rescuers acted swiftly, using special cutting tools to force open the driver’s side door and safely extricate the victim.
Injuries and Medical Assistance
Emergency medical responders rushed the injured driver to Serian Hospital for further treatment. Meanwhile, the two passengers, who sustained minor injuries, were handed over to ambulance personnel for medical assessment.
Rescue Operations Completed
After ensuring the safety of the accident site and clearing debris from the road, the rescue team concluded their operation and returned to the station at 5.23 am.
