TATAU, SARAWAK: The Temporary Evacuation Centre (Pusat Pemindahan Sementara – PPS) at Dewan Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan (SMK) Tatau officially closed today after 14 days of operation, marking the end of its role in sheltering flood victims.
Tatau District Officer, Calvin Ligong, made the announcement following advice from the Disaster Operations Commander and Assistant Disaster Operations Commander of Tatau District.
The PPS SMK Tatau was opened on 29 January to provide shelter for families displaced by the recent flood in Tatau District. Throughout its operation, the centre served as a safe haven for affected residents, offering basic necessities, food aid, and medical assistance.

Calvin expressed heartfelt gratitude to all who contributed to the smooth running of the evacuation centre.
“I want to sincerely thank the agencies, non-governmental organisations (NGOs), associations, and individuals who worked tirelessly to support the PPS and deliver essential aid to those in need,” he said.
The closure of PPS SMK Tatau signifies an improvement in flood conditions, allowing evacuees to return home and resume their daily routines. However, local authorities continue to monitor the situation to ensure the safety and welfare of residents.
Flood disasters are a recurring issue in Tatau, especially during the monsoon season, and efforts are ongoing to mitigate future risks. Residents are reminded to stay alert and follow safety guidelines in the event of heavy rainfall.
