KUCHING: The National Welfare Foundation (YKN) has donated RM300,000 to support flood victims in Sarawak, bringing much-needed relief to affected communities. The contribution was handed over by the Minister of Women, Family, and Community Development, Dato Sri Nancy Shukri, who also chairs YKN, to Sarawak’s Deputy Premier and Sarawak State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) Chairman, Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas, at Wisma Bapa Malaysia on Thursday.
Speaking at the handover ceremony, Dato Sri Nancy highlighted that this donation reflects the collaboration between YKN and caring corporate bodies and individuals concerned for disaster victims’ welfare. She described the initiative as a show of solidarity with the Sarawak Government and the victims affected by the recent floods.
“This assistance will be channelled directly to SDMC’s account. We trust SDMC to manage and distribute the funds effectively,” she explained.

However, Dato Sri Nancy acknowledged that RM300,000 is not sufficient to cover all the damages caused, especially in heavily affected areas such as Bintulu and Miri. “We believe SDMC is best positioned to decide how to allocate the funds to maximise its impact on the victims,” she added.
Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah expressed gratitude for the generous contribution and provided updates on other financial support received. According to him, SDMC has so far received RM12.8 million from the Prime Minister’s Office, RM10 million from the Sarawak Government, and RM2.45 million from the private sector, including Petroleum Sarawak Berhad (PETROS).
Also present at the event were Deputy Sarawak Secretary (Administration) and SDMC Deputy Chairman, Datu Buckland Bangik, along with YKN Chief Executive Officer, Nordina Haron. – UKAS EDITION
