KUCHING, March 14 – Works Minister Dato Sri Alexander Nanta Linggi recently represented the Malaysian government at the Holy See National Day reception ceremony, held in conjunction with the 12th anniversary of His Holiness Pope Francis’ pontificate.

Taking to Facebook on March 13, Nanta, who is also the Member of Parliament (MP) for Kapit, expressed his gratitude for being part of the prestigious event.

“It was my immense pleasure to represent the Malaysian government at the Holy See National Day reception ceremony in Malaysia recently. The event was hosted by Archbishop Wojciech Zaluski, Apostolic Nuncio to Malaysia, and was held to mark the twelfth anniversary of His Holiness Pope Francis’ pontificate,” he shared in his post.

Also in attendance at the ceremony was Roman Catholic Archbishop of Kuching, Dato Dr Simon Poh, among other distinguished guests.

Pope Francis, now 88 years old, was elected as the head of the Roman Catholic Church on March 13, 2013, at the age of 76. He is widely recognised for his humble lifestyle, strong connection with the people, and unwavering commitment to advocating for the poor and vulnerable communities worldwide.

The Holy See National Day is commemorated annually on February 11 to mark the anniversary of the establishment of the Vatican City State with the Lateran Pacts. The Vatican, the spiritual and administrative centre of the Catholic Church, plays a significant role in international diplomacy and religious affairs.

The presence of Malaysia’s Works Minister at the event reflects the country’s commitment to fostering strong diplomatic ties with the Vatican and supporting interfaith dialogues on a global level.
