Improving Sarawak’s Safety: YB Lo Khere Chiang’s Call to Action

KUCHING, December 26 – YB Lo Khere Chiang, the N13 Batu Kitang assemblyman, has reiterated the importance of enhancing safety and security measures for Sarawakians. During his Christmas visit to the Batu Kitang area, YB Lo outlined his vision to bolster security for the community while addressing broader concerns about fairness in federal allocations.

A Blueprint for Safer Communities

YB Lo emphasized the need for more robust security initiatives in his constituency. These include:

  1. Increasing Police Personnel – More officers on the ground to ensure public safety.
  2. Deploying Surveillance Vehicles – Enhancing patrol capabilities for quicker response times.
  3. Installing More CCTVs – Expanding surveillance coverage to deter criminal activities.

“These measures will create a safer environment for Sarawakians to live and thrive,” YB Lo stated, calling on the federal government to support these efforts.

Unequal Federal Allocations

YB Lo voiced concerns about the allocation of the RM600 million federal security contract, pointing out that Sarawak only receives 10% of the funding. This disparity is especially glaring given Sarawak’s significant contributions to the national economy, particularly through its resources managed by Petronas.

He questioned the fairness of the distribution, emphasizing that Sarawak has over 200 capable security companies, 12 of which are based in the state. “It’s only fair for Sarawakian companies to handle security contracts for schools here. This will create local jobs and boost our economy,” he added.

A Call for Unity

YB Lo urged Sarawakians to unite regardless of political beliefs. “Alone, we are weak, but together, Sarawak is strong. We must support GPS and our leaders like Abang Jo to reclaim our rights under the Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63),” he said.

As Sarawak marks 65 years in Malaysia, YB Lo echoed the late Adenan Satem’s words: “Jaga Sarawak baik-baik.” The call to prioritize Sarawak’s welfare resonates strongly as the state seeks greater autonomy and fairer treatment.
