KUCHING – In a significant development for Sekolah Jenis Kebangsaan (SJK) Bintawa, Bandar Kuching MP Dr Kelvin Yii has successfully secured an allocation of RM146,865 for the much-needed upgrade of the school’s facilities. This move is set to provide a safer and more comfortable environment for both students and staff.

Dr Yii announced the allocation through his Facebook page, highlighting the dire condition of the school’s existing furnishings. According to Dr Yii, many of the office and classroom desks and chairs at SJK Bintawa are severely worn out and have not been replaced for an extended period. The situation has been exacerbated by the poor condition of the library tables, which have been taped together to ensure continued use.

Addressing Critical Needs

Worn-Out Furnishings and Equipment

Dr Yii’s post shed light on the pressing need for upgrades at the school. The MP revealed that the existing furnishings, including desks and chairs, have reached a stage where they are no longer fit for use. This situation has negatively impacted the learning experience, with students and teachers struggling with inadequate and outdated equipment.

The library, a crucial resource for students, has also suffered due to damaged tables. The current repair methods, such as taping, are a temporary fix and do not address the underlying issue of the damaged furniture.

Preparing for Future Enrollment

The school is also preparing for an anticipated increase in enrollment. With a projected rise of 60 students in the Special Education class by 2025, the current number of desks and chairs will be insufficient to meet the growing demand. This increase highlights the urgent need for additional equipment to accommodate the influx of students.

Comprehensive Upgrade Plan

New Equipment and Furnishings

To address these issues, Dr Yii has outlined a comprehensive upgrade plan. The allocated RM146,865 will be used to purchase new desks, chairs, and storage cabinets for various parts of the school. This includes the teachers’ office, administrative office, principal’s office, library, life skills room, and classrooms.

The upgrade will also include the acquisition of teaching equipment such as notice boards and printers, which are essential for effective teaching and administration. This investment is aimed at enhancing the quality of education and providing a more conducive learning environment for the students.

Enhancing Teaching and Learning

Dr Yii expressed hope that this allocation would significantly improve teaching quality and overall student experience at SJK Bintawa. By upgrading the school’s facilities, the MP aims to create a more supportive and comfortable environment for both students and staff, ultimately fostering a better learning experience.

Community Impact

The allocation of RM146,865 is expected to have a positive impact on the local community. By investing in the school’s infrastructure, Dr Yii is not only addressing immediate needs but also contributing to the long-term development of the educational environment in Bintawa.

The upgrade is a testament to the commitment of local representatives in enhancing educational facilities and ensuring that students have access to quality learning resources. This initiative reflects the broader effort to improve educational standards and support the growth and development of students in the region.

Conclusion

The RM146,865 allocation for Sekolah Jenis Kebangsaan (SJK) Bintawa is a crucial step towards upgrading the school’s facilities and providing a better learning environment for students. With new furnishings and equipment on the way, the school is set to offer enhanced educational experiences and support the needs of an increasing student population.
