Kuching Police Arrest Man Linked to Multiple Shop Break-Ins

KUCHING (Nov 25): Police in Kuching have detained a 46-year-old man for allegedly breaking into a shop in Tabuan Jaya, causing losses estimated at RM14,000. The arrest took place on Sunday at a premises in Taman BDC, Jalan Stampin.

Acting Kuching district police chief Supt Merbin Lisa stated that officers seized multiple items during the arrest. Among the confiscated items were two laptops, three CCTV units, a graphics card, and various tools, including a screwdriver, Allen key, and pliers. Additionally, a stolen hatchback vehicle was also recovered.

Further investigations revealed that the vehicle had been reported stolen earlier this month in Taman Satria on Nov 9. The suspect also tested positive for amphetamine and methamphetamine and has six prior records involving drug and property-related offences.

Supt Merbin disclosed that preliminary questioning linked the suspect to three separate shop break-ins in the city. The suspect is currently under remand for seven days as investigations continue. He is being investigated under Section 457 of the Penal Code, which carries a penalty of up to 14 years’ imprisonment, a fine, or caning upon conviction.
