Held at the Borneo Convention Centre Kuching (BCCK) on June 23, this event promised and delivered an unforgettable experience.

The Lineup: A Tribute Fit for Legends

The concert featured stellar performances by internationally acclaimed tribute bands and musicians. ABBORN, the award-winning ABBA tribute act from Europe, mesmerized the audience with their authentic renditions of ABBA classics. From the energetic “Waterloo” to the infectious “Dancing Queen,” ABBORN took everyone on a journey through the timeless hits of the Swedish pop sensations.

Killer Queen, led by Alfred Ayal, often hailed as the Freddie Mercury of Indonesia, electrified the stage with their rendition of Queen’s anthems. Opening with “One Vision,” they commanded the crowd’s attention and had them singing along to iconic tracks such as “Bohemian Rhapsody,” “We Will Rock You,” and “We Are The Champions.”

Special Guest Performances and Local Talent

Adding local flavor to the international tribute acts, Asia’s top guitarist Alif Putra joined the lineup, showcasing his virtuosity akin to Steve Vai. The concert also featured poignant moments, including an acoustic rendition of Queen’s “Love of My Life” by Sarawak’s own Michael King, Malaysian singer-songwriter Dewi Liana Seriestha, and Alfred Ayal, touching the hearts of the audience.

Former beauty queen Larissa Ping wowed the crowd with her soulful sape performance, highlighting Sarawak’s rich musical heritage and adding a unique touch to the evening.

Government Support and Audience Reception

The event garnered significant support from the government, with Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts Minister Datuk Seri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah expressing delight at the turnout of approximately 2,000 attendees, including visitors from outside the state. The minister emphasized the cultural significance of ABBA’s music, particularly resonant with those who grew up during the band’s heyday in the 70s.
