Indonesian Nabbed for Alleged Knifepoint Robbery of E-Hailing Driver
Arrest Made in Connection with E-Hailing Driver Robbery in Sibu
SIBU: Police have arrested an Indonesian man suspected of robbing an elderly e-hailing driver at knifepoint along Jalan Teku-Pasai Siong last week.
The incident occurred around 4.30 am on May 30 when the 55-year-old woman picked up the suspect and drove him to a nearby location. During the ride, the suspect allegedly held a knife to the victim’s neck, prompting her to free herself and exit the vehicle for safety.
The suspect then fled with the woman’s car and valuables. Shortly after, the victim’s car was found crashed not far from the crime scene, but the suspect had already escaped.
Victim Sustains Minor Injuries and Lodges Police Report
Fortunately, the victim only sustained light injuries and she lodged a police report regarding the incident on the same day.
Police Chief Provides Details on Arrest and Investigation
Sibu police chief ACP Zulkipli Suhaili said the Criminal Investigation Division (CID) managed to locate and arrest the suspect around 1.30 pm in an open area along Jalan Ling Kai Cheng yesterday (June 2).
“Further inspections found that the 18-year-old suspect did not possess any valid travel documents. The suspect, who tested negative for drugs, will be remanded until June 17 to facilitate investigations,” he said.
He added that the case is being investigated under Section 392/397 of the Penal Code for armed robbery.
