Motorcyclist Dies in Sibu After Crashing Into Five-Tonne Lorry

SIBU – A 39-year-old motorcyclist tragically lost his life after colliding with the rear of a five-tonne lorry along Jalan Tun Zaidi Adruce last night.

The victim, identified as Zakaria Latif, was found unconscious in the back of the lorry with severe head injuries. Despite efforts by bystanders and emergency responders to revive him, he was pronounced dead at the scene.

Accident Discovered by Civil Defence Force

The Sibu District Civil Defence Force (APM) was returning to their office around 7.25 pm when they stumbled upon the accident.

“Upon arrival, our team found an adult male lying motionless in the back of the lorry, bleeding from the head and face,” said Major Wan Mohd Jabir Wan Mohd Badrudin in a statement.

CPR Efforts Failed to Save Victim

Two dentists who were passing by tried to assist by administering CPR alongside APM members, but the victim did not respond.

A medical team from the hospital later arrived and continued resuscitation attempts. However, at 7.51 pm, he was officially pronounced dead.

Police Investigating the Cause of the Accident

The victim’s body has been handed over to the police for further investigation. Authorities are working to determine the exact cause of the accident, including whether speed or visibility played a role.

This tragic incident serves as a reminder for road users to stay vigilant, especially at night. Motorists are urged to always wear protective gear, maintain safe distances, and ensure their motorcycle lights are in good condition to avoid similar accidents.
